Celebrating Our Roots, Preserving Our Traditions, Inspiring Future Generations

Preserving Our Heritage, Celebrating Our Identity

At the Nepalese Canadian Association of Calgary (NCAC), we believe that culture and heritage are the foundations of our identity, connecting generations through shared traditions, values, languages, arts, and history. Our Culture & Heritage initiative is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating Nepal's rich cultural diversity while fostering meaningful connections within Canada's multicultural society.

Nepal is home to diverse ethnic communities, languages, religions, customs, festivals, and artistic traditions. NCAC strives to provide an inclusive platform where Nepalese Canadians can proudly celebrate their cultural roots, share their heritage with others, and pass on valuable traditions to future generations.

Through cultural celebrations, educational activities, artistic performances, language promotion, and community participation, we aim to strengthen cultural identity, encourage intergenerational learning, and promote mutual respect among Calgary's diverse communities.

Our Key Initiatives

1. Cultural Festivals & Traditional Celebrations
We encourage the celebration of Nepalese festivals and cultural occasions, including Dashain, Tihar, Teej, Nepali New Year, Buddha Jayanti, Losar, Chhath, Maghe Sankranti, and other important traditions observed by Nepal's diverse communities.
These celebrations provide opportunities for families, friends, and community members to come together, share traditional customs, enjoy cultural performances, and strengthen their connection to Nepalese heritage.
2. Nepali Language & Cultural Education
Language is an essential part of cultural identity and intergenerational connection. NCAC aims to encourage the preservation and promotion of the Nepali language and Nepal's diverse mother tongues through educational activities, storytelling, cultural learning, and community engagement.
We aspire to help children and youth develop an appreciation for their linguistic heritage while building confidence in their multicultural Canadian identity.
3. Traditional Music, Dance & Performing Arts
Nepalese music, dance, and performing arts reflect the creativity, history, and cultural diversity of our communities. We encourage opportunities to showcase traditional and contemporary Nepalese artistic expressions, including folk music, cultural dances, musical performances, and community talent.
Through artistic participation, we aim to inspire young performers, recognize local talent, and introduce Nepalese cultural traditions to broader Canadian audiences.
4. Cultural Diversity & Multicultural Harmony
Nepal's strength lies in its remarkable cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity. NCAC is committed to promoting respect, inclusion, and equal opportunities for participation among all communities.
We encourage intercultural dialogue, collaborative celebrations, and partnerships with multicultural organizations to strengthen understanding, friendship, and harmony within Calgary's diverse society.
5. Cultural Exchange & Community Partnerships
We seek to build meaningful relationships with local cultural associations, educational institutions, community organizations, and multicultural partners across Calgary.
Through cultural exchange and collaborative initiatives, we aim to share Nepalese heritage, promote cross-cultural understanding, and contribute to Canada's vibrant multicultural landscape.
